Put on my Tailor-made Suits

“My dreams… they have gone down to the drains, after all that happened.” To the mysterious Cloth-Maker, Joseph complained aloud in anguish.

Joseph was also mocked by the gangsters, “Either God doesn’t exist, or He doesn’t like you!”

Some dreams do come true if you persevere and stay on the course of your life.

Some dreams never materialize because they were just not meant to be part of your life story.

But the dreams Joseph was set to happen, for it was God’s divine script for Joseph’s life.

It was such a privilege for me to have attended such a quality theater over the past weekend, namely “The Tailor Made Man,” produced by Actspressions at PJ Live Arts Theater. Revisiting the life story of Joseph, the play invited us to travel down the life path of Joseph, and “eye-witnessed” how our Lord God tailor-made various outfits for Joseph for the different phases of his life.

Tough choices. Hard decisions. Facing different challenges at different juncture of life, one might wonder: How am I going to make it? If there’s any hope at all for me to move on — Is it just a hopeful hope, or a hope that is real HOPE as there’s some kind of assurance for it to be valid?

“You have been faithful.” That was the Cloth-Maker’s appraisal of Joseph. And being faithful to God’s high calling guarantees eternal rewards.

“But Joseph said to them, ‘Do not fear, for am I in the place of God? As for you, you meant evil against me, but God meant it for good, to bring it about that many people should be kept alive, as they are today. So do not fear; I will provide for you and your little ones.’ Thus he comforted them and spoke kindly to them.” – Genesis 50:19-21

The unreasonableness of life had trained Joseph to totally surrender his unattended case to God for vindication. In the course of time, Joseph acquired the Christ-like stature, so much so that he was able to forgive his aggressors, and he also became the Benefactor of all peoples in the land during the Great Famine of Egypt.

Biblical truth encourages us to trust our lives to God, for His divine plans always prevail in the end of day.

As God’s way is higher than ours, some stories might never make any sense in our natural capacity of understanding how things should be.

But God is God. Even in the midst of extreme devastation and desperation, He has a way to accomplish His divine purpose.

In the sheer pain of our shame and nakedness, He has a tailor-made outfit to clothe us each. Instead of trying to put my story together, I’ll choose His storyline for me.

I’ll choose to live out the character He has designed me to be.

I would put on the tailor-made suits He has for me.
